United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women or UMW is an organization of approximately one million members whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders and advocate for justice.  This organization used to be called the Women's Society of Christian Service and colloquially was known as The Missionary Society.  Today it is more commonly known as the UMW and is made up of small groups or circles.
In the case of the UMW of the First United Methodist Church of Elizabeth City there are two circles which meet in the morning and one which meets at night.  The entire organization meets at the church on the second Monday of each month at 10:00 AM.  One of the major objectives of the UMW is the support of the church's missionaries and their activities. The UMW is part of the General Board of Global Missions.  For further information one can contact United Methodist Women
