›› Welcome to our Education Page

Welcome to the Education Page.  This page is the responsibility of the Education Department of FUMC of Elizabeth City to maintain and keep current as well as to choose its content.

As a starting point one of the Web Page administrators has placed some information onto this page so that the few words will not be lonely.  The Education Department is urged to remove, modify and add whatever they feel will best serve the objectives of informing both those currently in the church family and those considering joining us as to what happens at FUMC to improve one's knowledge of the Bible and its teachings.

In the center of the page you will find general descriptions of Organizations, Meetings (i.e.: Church Conferences, Charge Conferences,

›› Christian Education from Birth Through Third Grade

We have our nursery open for all church activities.  Coverage for worship and Sunday school starts at 8:15 AM and continues until 12:15 PM or until the last child leaves.  The nursery starts with babes in the crib and also takes care of toddlers (0-2yrs old).   Parents check their children in and pick up a pager which allows them to maintain contact with how their children are getting along while they learn and worship.

We then have children's church starting after the children's sermon at the start of worship service in the sanctuary, which has bible stories and crafts for children 3yrs old through 3rd grade.During Sunday school hour from 9:30 until 10:30 am we have classes for all age groups with the above

›› Christian Training for Little Ones From the Church and Community
Approximately twenty years ago, a group from the church started a preschool program. This program has grown over the years and currently has over 100 children varying in age from two years old through four years old.The school is part of our church program but accepts children from the church family and from the community even though those of church members have priority for acceptance.  There is currently a backlog awaiting acceptance. The primary purpose of the school is to give children familiarity with getting along with other children and adults, learning social skills, and learning more about Jesus and the love of God..

›› Adult Opportunities for Learning

Adults from the church and community have many opportunities at FUMC to increase their knowledge of God, the Bible and the Methodist denomination.

There are five Sunday school classes for adults that meet every Sunday.

Some are attended by couples or just men and women, there is a men's class, a class which has couples who have young children, and one class which concentrates on world events and their religious significance. There also are three Bible classes given at different times during the week and all are invited to attend and participate in any of the classes and activities.

›› Christian Education for Middle School and High School Youths
Many churches have difficulty keeping youth involved in church activities in the latter years of Middle School and High School.  A lot of them drop out until they marry and their children start to arrive and then they remember the importance that church had for them. This is unfortunate and we are seeking to maintain interest during these difficult years for teens.
The following are some of those ways:
  1. We have a Sunday School Class where the Middle School students learn to carry out puppet shows to teach young children about Jesus and his teachings.
  2. We have both a Middle School age  Methodist Youth  organization and a Senior  Methodist Youth Organization.
  3. We have Bible Study Group for Youth before school.
  4. We have
