In 2002 First United Methodist Church entered into an after school tutoring partnership with Sheep Harney Elementary School just tree blocks north of the church. We have continued that partnership each year since and in the year 2002 Ms. Georgia stabell, who was picking up three of her grandchildren after school joined our volunteer group.

Nursery

We not only love our children but also their parents and have both a crib nursery and toddler nursery to take care of them while their parents enjoy church activities.

Toddler's Nursery

Not only do we have a crib nursery to take care of your newborns but also have a todler nursery so that these "knee babies" and todlers can enjoy being away from their parents while vice versa.

Modern Pager System

Both our nursery managers and parents can enjoy what's happening if they can communicate when needed. We have silent pagers where the parent can be contacted if needed. These are state-of-the art made for churches. I will substitute a hand held device for this rescue boat.

Sunday School With Crafts

Our younger children seem to learn about Jesus and the Bible best when they participate with crafts and songs.

Children's Choir at Nursing Home

It is never too young for one to learn that church extends beyond the building and represents both what you get and what you give.

Children's Choir Celebrating A Good Season

Our children's choir not only performs in church and as mission efforts but also has several celebrations during the year to mark their hard work and success. This one is at a Roller Rink in Chesapeake but we have also gone to Ocean Breeze Waterpark several times and expect to again.

Children's Communion

On the first Sunday of each month we have communion at both or Contemporary Service at 8:30 am and our Traditional Service at 11:00 am. We do not believe that it is too early to introduce our children to the meal that Christ gave us to commemorate his new Covenant so we have Children's Communion at the beginning of the Service and then they go to Children's Church.

On the Sundays that we do not have communion we have an understandable "Children's Message" usually given by our Children and Youth Director, Kelli.
